What’s more intimate than the stories we hold close to our hearts? On June 10th, join Heretics Club and Language Arts at Apt 5 in the Lower East Side for a blind book exchange. You’ll bring a book in good condition (secondhand encouraged!) that’s touched you in one way or another. It can be fiction or nonfiction, a collection of essays, plays, or a screenplay—just as long as it's a body of written work that has spoken to you. We’ll spend the first portion of the event wrapping them (supplies provided) and adding a short handwritten note about why it mattered to you.
From there, we’ll swap: no covers, no titles, just curiosity and instinct based on the cards from the original owner. Guests will be able to walk around the venue and pick a blind title that you’ll take home. Good conversation and a new book will be guaranteed; food and drinks will also be available for purchase. Come alone or with a friend!
A special thank you to our friends at Seen Library for cultivating an intentional book exchange that Shared Stories is modeled after.
About Language Arts: Language Arts is a Substack about books you actually want to read, by NYLON’s former culture team. Language Arts spotlights indie and emerging literature, with an eye for books that are strange, surprising, and irreverent.
