WRITERS, LET’S BFFR

The creative world feels more unattainable than ever. With increasingly steep barriers to entry, the rise of A.I., and late stage capitalism demanding we sacrifice pleasure for productivity, it's been hard for writers everywhere.

But without writers, we would have no archives, no catalogs, and no imagination for a better world. At Heretics Club, we're supporting writers through community and programming. Our politics are simple: we prioritize people over profit and communal growth over competition.

what we offer

01. ARTISTIC COMMUNITY

Writers get each other. That’s why we’re committed to fostering real conversations by providing space via our Discord for writers to share big wins, vent about the industry, talk about mutual interests, share and edit work, and more.

02. SALON EVENTS

Three times a month, Heretics Club will host creative programming (Q&As, workshops, and more) that are completely free to our members.

03. EXCLUSIVE RESOURCES

We believe in a mindful and personalized approach to writing. To ensure this practice, we provide writing sprints, craft tips, small groups, accountability practices, and more.

04. PAID OPPORTUNITIES

Heretics Club believes in spreading the wealth—we do the heavy lifting of finding opportunities for writers to be published and paid.

Heretics Club was conceptualized in response to the ever growing threat of censorship and intellectual theft (also known as A.I.). But we believe that writers are irreplaceable in a free-thinking society. Writers have long since been our society's mirrors, architects, and activists. Solidify your place in a community that values these pursuits, deeply cares about you, and actively wants to nourish your art.

Whether you’re established in your craft, are searching for inspiration, or are in the first phases of creation, Heretics Club is the catalyst for your journey. We’re on the precipice of change and welcome those who are daring to think, create, and work differently towards a more accessible, inclusive future for the creative industry.

  • Applications to join are completely free of cost. Once accepted to the club, members will be prompted to pay a “donate what you can” fee twice a year with a recommended donation amount of $65. Per our ethos, providing writers with a low barrier to entry is essential to our organization’s values as we strive to make writing as accessible as possible.

We recognize that financial situations are often in flux and want to offer as much flexibility to our writers as possible. With that being said, if you are able to donate more, all membership fees go towards our development and programming.

  • We accept creative writers of all forms and backgrounds. Whether you’re a career writer looking for community or hobby writer who just likes the craft, there’s no hard and fast rule for membership. Simply put: if you write (no matter the frequency or audience), you’re welcomed at Heretics Club.

With that being said, we are a club for creative writers. If you’re an academic or SEO writer, this is probably not the place for you!

  • We can go on and on about the benefits of having a writing community, but we’d rather you hear from our members yourself. Click around the site to find testimonials from our current roster of writers. Here’s one right now:

“Before Heretics Club, I had been talking about writing my novel for years without any real progress because I work a demanding office job. But in November, I wrote 30,000+ words (100 pages) through their Camp Nano group. That would not have happened without this club.” — Jessie H, Based in Massachusetts

BY THE NUMBERS

Heretics Club softly launched in September 2023 as a self-funded, word of mouth project. In the few short months that we’ve been up and running, we’ve been able to curate a series of elevated events for our writers. As we grow, we look forward to developing our club and continuing to help writers find their path.
